New edition of Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route guide published
The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Unit is pleased to announce the publication of a new edition of the Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route Pack.
This popular map/guide pack has been completely revised and updated for 2009 with support from ‘Choose Suffolk’ and Suffolk County Council. The Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route is based on a circular signed route on quiet roads, stretching from Felixstowe to Dunwich, with many opportunities for detours and short cuts, including off-road routes in three forests, mostly within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The pack includes two maps for the main signed route based on the Ordnance Survey Landranger series and three forest maps based on the Explorer series. There is also a detailed commentary on the route, providing useful guidance and information about places of interest along the way, together with an information guide and accommodation listing.
David Kemp, Suffolk County Council Cycling Officer said: “Since it was first devised back in 1994 this route has been a firm favourite with cycle tourists in Suffolk. Now the updated forest maps include details of all the new attractions at Rendlesham forest so the pack is equally useful to families looking for a day out with bikes on traffic-free routes. The use of the OS map base makes this one of the best quality cycle route maps available and terrific value at just £4.99."
Malcolm Farrow, Communications Officer with the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB Unit added: “Cycling has always been a great way to explore the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, so I’m delighted that the guide to the Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route is available again. The route takes in some of the finest countryside in Suffolk so why not get on your bike and check it out!”
The pack is available direct from the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB Unit for £4.99 plus £1.00 for postage and packing. Cheques should be made payable to Suffolk County Council and you must remember to include your address and telephone number. The pack is also available from outlets in the area, including local Tourist Information Centres and Suffolk Coast and Heaths Visitor Centres.

The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is one of Britain’s finest landscapes. Located on the coast of East Anglia, the AONB extends from the Stour estuary in the south to the eastern fringe of Ipswich and as far north as Kessingland. It covers 150 square miles, including wildlife-rich wetlands, ancient heaths, windswept shingle beaches and historic towns and villages. The UK's 49 AONBs are part of the ‘family’ of protected areas that includes our National Parks and Heritage Coasts. All receive special protection because of their quality and importance.
