Cathy's Blog - Great News!

I’ve started work on the autumn/winter editions of the two AONB newspapers. It is something I look forward to because I get to hear about all sorts of interesting things happening across the two AONBs.

Stories are invited from all the local organisations and community groups in the two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and each issue (every six months) we hear about what the many volunteers have been doing to support wildlife or what has been happening to encourage people to take part in conservation activities or what projects our funding has helped a community deliver.

In the last issue we learned about Dark Skies and the River Stour Festival, and coming up we’ll learn how the Dedham Vale Society has marked its 80th birthday. We’ll tell you about what the AONB team has been doing too, so once I’ve got the articles and photos sorted and page-set by designers you’ll be able to read our Vale & Valley and Coast & Heaths news from mid October.

Yes, autumn is around the corner, schools are back this week, and – I hate to say it! – the evenings are drawing in. September events include our AONB ‘Family’ Outstanding Week (15-23 Sept), during which the AONB team is running a guided walk from Clare Castle Country Park, and supporting the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean weekend – in 2017, over 30 groups picked up over 14,000 items of litter off the beaches. It is also the week for the ‘People’s Walk For Wildlife’ in London, led by Chris Packham. We’ll end September at the Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival, where #PlasticAction is our stand theme.
