Food & Drink Awards Winner Announced!

We are proud to announce Cafe 1885 at Snape Maltings as the winner of the AONB 'Eat the View' category at the 2012 EADT Food and Drink Awards (FADA). The award was to recognise a business dealing in the growing, production or retail of food within either the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB or Dedham Vale AONB.

Café 1885 is committed to working with local producers through its well established farmers market and network of local suppliers. It is a mecca for local food producers, with monthly farmers’ markets and knowledgeable staff. The whole complex at Snape Maltings celebrates it location within the Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB and encourages its visitors to explore and appreciate their surroundings. Café manager Victoria Burnside emphasised this upon accepting the award:

“To be recognised for the fact we’re taking advantage of the lovely environment we’re in is great”

As a Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB Supporter, Snape Maltings has a very good relationship with us and so we would also like to extend our congratulations to Alesha Gooderham. As director and marketing manager of the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival held annually at Snape Maltings, Alesha won the Outstanding Achievement award at the FADA for her efforts in promoting the county’s food and drink producers.  As regular participants at the festival, Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB know that this is an extremely important event for showcasing the delights of the area.

It was noted that the higher standard of nominations gave the judges a tremendous challenge this year. This was recognised through awarding finalists with highly commended certificates. We would like to congratulate Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB Supporters Suffolk Food Hall at Wherstead and also The British Larder at Bromeswell, on achieving this commendation.

Finally, we would like to say a big thank-you from both AONBs to the judges of the Eat the View category at the FADA. Cllr Nigel Chapman (Colchester Borough Council) and Cllr David Wood (Suffolk County Council) chair the Dedham Vale and Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONBs respectively and both are passionate about conserving and enhance the areas for the benefit of residents and visitors.
