Suffolk Coast Greeters - On Film!

Suffolk Coast Greeters - On Film!

Are you interested in becoming a Suffolk Coast Greeter but want to see what it’s all about?

You can now experience a Greet and learn more about how to get involved by watching our film!

The short video was made by Art and Design student Evie Risebro after Suffolk Coast & Heaths and Suffolk Coastal and Waveney District Councils approached Lowestoft College to give students the opportunity to gain experience by producing two films; one to provide an insight into the role of a Suffolk Coast Greeter and the other to enable visitors to the area to see a ‘greet’ before booking one themselves.

Evie said: “I was interested in making the films as I knew it would allow me to expand my knowledge of the Suffolk Area which I felt like I should know more about, but also because I knew it would be useful towards my portfolio for university.”

The Suffolk Coast Greeters programme was launched in October 2015 with funding from the Coastal Communities Fund and offers visitors the chance to book a 'Greet' with a local person who knows and loves the area and wants to share a passion for his or her favourite spot and interests.

Greets are booked and arranged in advance via the Suffolk Coast Greeters website and emails with the coordinator. They typically involve a two hour circular walk filled with chatter about a particular spot covering history, culture, wildlife, food and other, shared topics of interest, tips and pointers.

To create the two short films, Evie and her Tutor, Austin Levett joined Greeter Suzanne Bartlett in Framlingham, which neither had ever visited before. Suffolk Coast Greeter coordinator, Deborah said:
“They loved learning about a new place from Suzanne, who is both knowledgeable and engaging. The history was of particular interest to Evie and Austin and they thought Suffolk Coast Greeters is a fantastic way to check out a new area, explore and get insider information that you can’t get from the internet.”

Evie, who made the film as part of her Level 3 extended BTEC in Art and Design, hopes to go on to university to study commercial film, her tutor Austin Levett said:
“Working on and presenting the project has given Evie a fantastic opportunity to add this as an extension to her university portfolio.”
