Galloper Wind Farm Fund
The Galloper Wind Farm Fund (GWFF) aims to contribute to the appearance, setting, conservation, amenity, accessibility and enjoyment of the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape specifically within the area defined as a 5km radius of Sizewell, the location of the Galloper substation.
The fund is agreed at £187,000 over 17 years, to be paid at £11,000 per annum to Suffolk County Council, starting in April 2016 and a number of projects have been funded.
The fund is administered by Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape on behalf of Galloper Wind Farm Ltd, which is operated by RWE renewables on behalf of the project partners, and is held by Suffolk County Council. A Panel meets once a year (usually in spring) to assess projects and award grants.
The Galloper Wind Farm Fund Panel includes representatives from Suffolk County Council, East Suffolk Council and Leiston Town Council.
The Galloper Wind Farm Fund wishes to attract applications from the widest range of society possible and supports equality of opportunities to access this fund.

How much funding can a project apply for?
There is no lower or upper amount for grant requests, but the maximum is likely to be in the region of £2,000 to £2,500 per application. Grants of up to 100% can be awarded towards project costs.
When will funded projects be delivered?
Projects for this grant must run between April 2024 – 13th March 2025.
Galloper Wind Farm Fund Application Timeline:
- Opens: 12th January 2024
- Closes: Grant applications must be received by 23rd February 2024
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid March 2023 and may begin project delivery from April 2023
- All projects must be completed by 13th March 2025

Galloper Wind Farm Fund Case Studies
Leiston Community Land Trust
For the 2022-23 funding year, a £2,000 grant was awarded to the Leiston Community Land Trust towards the Leiston Church Square Community Garden.
The Leiston Church Square Community Garden will provide a fit-for-purpose, multi-functional, public facility which ensures that community groups will have a place to meet and participate in various health, wellbeing, cultural and artistic activities.
The Long Shop Museum
For the 2021-22 funding year, £2,505 has been awarded to The Long Shop Museum, an independent museum and registered charity housed in a cluster of historic buildings in Leiston.
The GWFF grant will help the Hub become a safer and more welcoming place for all, with the new lighting further enhancing the adaptability of the space by offering the ability to change the mood of the lighting using zoned dimmers.
Leiston Community Land Trust
For the 2021-22 funding year, £3,600 has been awarded to the Leiston Community Land Trust to facilitate the Leiston Church Square Community Garden project.
The money awarded to support the project will help regenerate a redundant, neglected piece of land in the heart of Leiston, in to an accessible community garden and recreational amenity.
